Ever since I started travelling, my affinity for music has shot up exponentially. I haven’t gone even one trip without carrying my earphones. Yes, I have wired earbuds, that’s how old school I am and I love it. These things have been with me for quite some time now and even though the microphone has stopped working, I still use it profusely. Music never made me feel alone, even though I was raised to be independent. I would always be encapsulated from the world in my bubble jamming to my playlist. I faintly recall my first time listening to songs while sitting in a window seat, while the rain did its a thing.

The present gen kids will never know the value of getting your photo processed and adding them to your album and cherishing it forever. It doesn’t stop at photos. I remember owning a Walkman that had a cassette, a fucking cassette from the 20th century. Listening to the songs on that would make me a boomer, but I just don’t care. The songs recorded on them were hardwired with our emotions. It shows that no matter what technological advancements in Bluetooth or headphone industry may come up with, there is someone that says FUCK YOU to the world and carries on with their obsolete way. In this situation it’s me.
This doesn’t have to be solely subjective on how the old gen was living and we are not, it can also be about the way we see photos. I recently came across my old photo album from my childhood. Those photo albums even though obsolete now, have an old memory attached to them. These pictures age with time, which gives them a distinct memory of the place and also a particular feel to it.

Who remembers the old TV where we had to move our ass to change the channel, or it can even be a parabola that was there in Thailand that had to be adjusted so we get proper coverage of Indian channels. Those stunts performed for that little bit of happiness were truly worth living for. I envy those who grew up without all these, their lives were so much simpler and yet full of amazement.
Even the way we perceive love has changed, I miss old school dating (some Indians were lucky to be part of progressive India). From my deducing of the old west world dating, meetups in a bar and spending the whole night figuring out our likes and dislikes, exchanging ideas and bouncing off thoughts until the sun woke them up. This might sound filmy, but I wish we could experience like that here too. Just imagine, explaining the story of how I met your mother would be so fulfilling to hear (given that they don’t end up divorced).

The power cuts at night where we used to huddle and play games are seen no more, even though we have to move on as time advances, I am happy to be the last generation that is enjoying the best of both worlds. These are just a few things that I am able to recall from my childhood.
All in all, I can safely point out the fact that those photo albums had memories, wherein the pictures on my pc or phone only took up memory. Love the irony of this present world though.
